DALLAS, TX (9/14/2014) — A Sunday morning collision involving two DART buses has left ten people hospitalized, including at least two children.
According to reports, two Dallas Area Rapid Transport (DART) buses were involved in an accident Sunday morning at around 11:00 a.m. when one bus apparently rear-ended another.
Both buses (a Ledbetter Station Route 554 bus and a Charlton Hospital Route 466 bus) were headed westbound on Ledbetter Road. The Route 466 bus had stopped near Bronx Avenue in order to allow passengers to board the bus when it was struck from behind by the Route 554 bus.
Several passengers were injured in the bus crash. Six ambulances reported to the scene of the accident, and ten people (including both drivers and at least two children) were transported to Dallas hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Route 554 bus sustained serous damage to the front end of the vehicle, and witnesses reported that the sound of the impact could be heard from several blocks away. DART officials say that the accident will be investigated, the buses will be checked for mechanical problems, and that both drivers will be drug tested.
