NACOGDOCHES, TX (08/28/2015) — A rear-end car accident killed two people, and injured 3 others, on Friday night.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, a rear-end crash on Friday night along Highway 59 near Old Lufkin Road in Nacogdoches, Texas killed 1-year-old Blaze Zambo and 23-year-old Laura Saldana, and injured four others: Michael Zambo, 27, Richard Lira, 6, and Aubree Saldana, 6.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at around 7:00 p.m., northbound traffic was moving slowly due to a previous crash, when a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse—driven by Michael Zambo—failed to control its speed and rear-ended a 2005 Volvo 18-wheeler.
The impact claimed the life of Laura Saldana at the scene.
According to authorities, Richard Lira, Aubree Saldana, and Michael Zambo were all transported to Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches.
Blaze Zambo was also transported to Memorial Hospital, however, he was later pronounced deceased.
As of Saturday, Lira was transferred from Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches to Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, where he remains in critical condition. Michael Zambo was also transferred to a different hospital, but his condition is unknown.
Aubree Saldana, has since been treated and released.
This fatal crash remains under investigation.
