PINEHURST, TX (08/03/2015) — An 18-wheeler accident in Montgomery County claimed the life of 9-month-old Sawyer McIntosh, and injured his mother and brother on Monday afternoon.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 9-month-old Sawyer McIntosh died on Monday afternoon following an 18-wheeler rear-end accident on Highway 249 at Lazywood Lane in Pinehurst, Texas. His mother, Carter McIntosh, and 3-year-old brother Braben McIntosh were also injured in the wreck.
Authorities state that at around 1:00 p.m., an 18-wheeler driver (44-year-old Ruben Jimenez) was illegally parked in a moving lane of Highway 249 while trying to make a delivery to nearby business. In Texas, it is illegal to stop in a moving lane of traffic (even with emergency flashers on).
Jimenez, who was driving for Central Transport, was on the phone with the business owner when Carter McIntosh’s blue Hyundai SUV rear-ended his semi-truck.
Sawyer McIntosh was killed instantly. Carter McIntosh and Braben McIntosh were injured in the wreck, however, they’re both in stable condition at a local hospital.
Detectives are still investigating and have not stated what charges will be filed against Jimenez. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Terry Barnhill, they will file the highest criminal charge that the Montgomery County DA’s Office will accept.
