FORNEY, TX (08/03/2015) — 36-year-old Kim Harris died Monday afternoon after the vehicle she was traveling in rear-ended an 18-wheeler stopped partially on the highway.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Kyle Bradford stated that 36-year-old Kim Harris was killed, and 37-year-old Johnny Harris was injured, on Monday afternoon after their vehicle rear-ended an 18-wheeler that was stopped on Highway 80 near Windmill Farms Boulevard in Forney, Texas.
According to Bradford, at around 3:30 p.m., an eastbound 18-wheeler driver had pulled over to assist a woman who’s tire had blown out on the highway, when a silver-colored 2002 Dodge pickup truck—driven by 37-year-old Johnny Harris—rear-ended the stopped tractor-trailer. Reports state that the 18-wheeler was mostly in the shoulder, but still partially protruding into the roadway.
Johnny Harris was flown via CareFlite to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. His passenger, Kim Harris, lost her life in the wreckage. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
This fatal crash remains under investigation, and it is unknown if any charges will be filed against the driver of the 18-wheeler for obstructing a highway.
