DALLAS, TX (11/27/2015) — A speeding driver struck a family vehicle, which killed Yahir and Aylin Cervantes-Oliver, and injured 3 others on Friday afternoon.
According to authorities, a rear-end car accident killed two children, and injured three others, along Highway 175 near Elsie Faye Heggins in Dallas, Texas.
Melinda Urbina, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, stated that at around 1:30 p.m., a black, Range Rover SUV—driven by 23-year-old Kelvin Leon Walker—rear-ended a passenger vehicle carrying a family of five.
Police reported that Walker was traveling at more than 100 miles per hour at the time of the impact.
Yahir Cervantes-Oliver, 12, was ejected from the passenger vehicle and died at the scene. His 13-month-old baby sister, Aylin Cervantes-Oliver, was transported to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, where she later died.
The mother and a third child were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The father was treated at the scene. They are all expected to recover.
According to Raul Reyna, Walker is currently at Baylor Hospital. He has been charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter. Additional charges are pending while police await toxicology reports.
The wreck remains under investigation.
