Mansfield, Texas — 28-year-old Jose Loredo was killed, one female is injured, and one male is injured following an early morning accident on Highway 287 in Mansfield.
The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 287 near the Highway 360 intersection at around 2:40 a.m. Investigators are still unsure of how the accident happened, but from pictures of the accident scene, it appears a tan-colored 4-door Toyota Camry was rear-ended by a white Ford F-150. The driver of the Camry, Jose Loredo, was taken by helicopter to a John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition but later died at he hospital. The teenage female was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The 40-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 was reportedly uninjured, and was able to walk away from the accident.
While an investigation is still ongoing, authorities say they’ve ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor. “We don’t know if one vehicle was stopped at the stop light and the other vehicle didn’t stop or if something else happened,” said Mansfield police spokesman Thad Penkala. “That’s what our crash team is trying to determine.”
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.
