AUSTIN, TX (07/31/2015) — One woman was killed, and at least 5 others were injured, after a 9-vehicle crash along Manchaca Road at West Slaughter Lane on Friday afternoon.
According to Austin police, a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Manchaca Road and West Slaughter Lane claimed the life of 72-year-old Angelita Titus on Friday afternoon in Austin, Texas.
Investigators reported that at around 12:30 p.m., a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound in the 9700 block of Manchaca Road when, for unknown reasons, the driver “lost control of the vehicle and started traveling at a high rate of speed.”
Police state that the driver of the Malibu struck a gray Mitsubishi Outlander, a red Nissan Versa, and a black Mazda CX-5. The impact between the Malibu, Versa, and CX-5 caused the vehicles to collided with 5 other vehicles that were stopped at the Manchaca Road and Slaughter Lane intersection.
Titus, who was the driver of the Nissan Versa, died at the scene of the accident.
EMS also reported that two people were pinned in their vehicles and had to be extracted. A total of five people were taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge; two of them with potentially serious injuries.
Police are still investigating this fatal crash. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
