Not exactly what I was hoping to read when I first walked in this morning. A sedan rear ended a tow truck early yesterday morning (Sunday), killing the driver and severally injuring his passenger.
The tow truck was assisting another vehicle, which had suffered a flat tire on Highway 360, when the accident occurred. It’s unclear right now why the car wreck happened. Did the driver not see the tow truck in the early morning darkness? Was alcohol a factor? Investigators are hoping to glean answers to these questions. All they can tell us right now is that the car rear ended the truck at high speeds, killing the driver instantly.
Rear end collisions are the most common form of car accident in the U.S. The National Safety Council has reported that over 2.5 million accidents of this type occur every year (about 20% of all accidents reported). Avoid a rear end collision can be exceptionally difficult. There are steps, however, you can take to both prevent rear ending someone or being rear ended. Maintaining safe space between vehicles is priority one. Being aware of your surroundings and having an “emergency lane change” plan established is second.
