Who can honestly say they haven’t parked their car in a Panera Bread during a flash flood?
Don’t feel bad – James Buck knows exactly how you feel. During rush hour Monday, his white Volkswagen was involved in a minor (?) six vehicle accident that left it sitting in the middle of a Panera Bread restaurant in Watauga, TX. Another driver had lost control in the rain and pushed Buck’s car into the bakery. Thankfully no one was injured. Which means – we can now laugh about it (albeit, respectfully).
Watuaga joined greater Fort Worth and the rest of the DFW metroplex in suffering torrential rains yesterday. Emergency workers had their hands full rescuing stranded motorists whose vehicles had become overwhelmed by rising waters.
In this instance, weather has been named as the culprit of this accident. Other instances of SUVs in Petland stores or blue Hondas in church music rooms are usually chalked up to mistaking the gas and brake pedals and unintended acceleration. Those accidents are a little more disconcerting as they remind us that an innocent mistake (confusing the gas and brake pedal) can lead to a more serious wreck (such as rear ending a car on I-35).
Fox 4 pointed out in their story that the rain water receded as quickly as it aggregated. That seems to be the nature of these hit-and-run storms Dallas has been experiencing lately. Let’s hope that yesterday’s Panera wreck is the most serious car accident they cause.
