Last week, we touched on the tragic death of Jordan League, who was hit by a car while riding his bike Wednesday evening.
This week, WFAA reported that this is the third instance of a child being struck by a vehicle on Christopher Street – the road where young Jordan was hit.
Apparently, while the speed limit is 30 MPH, there are no signs stating this – nor are there any speed deterrents, such as road bumps or “your speed is” radar signs. Because of this, neighbors report that vehicles regularly speed down Christopher Street – which they allege was a factor in Jordan’s accident. At the little boy’s vigil Monday, community advocates gathered petition signatures they intend to leverage in convincing the City of Grand Prairie to take action and make their neighborhood safer for children.
While family and friends blame speed for Jordan’s death, it’s important to note that investigators have determined that Michael McNeal was NOT speeding when his truck hit the bicycle. He WAS, however, driving without a license – and was taken into custody. The accident was tragic – and the fact that three accidents have occurred on that street in under two years should raise eyebrows – but speed wasn’t a factor.
