According to CBS news, almost 2,000 commercial vehicles have been removed from service for failing Roadcheck 2011.
Area police launched a “sting operation” to remove unsafe 18 wheeler and other commercial vehicles from the road.
Certified by the federal government to inspect 18-wheelers, these officers are specialists in commercial truck operation. That means they understand the ins and outs of the 150+ page Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook that regulates drivers how to safely operate big rigs. And according to WFAA news – their investigation is raising concerned eyebrows.
Fort Worth police Sgt. Tim Ellis reported that over 1/3 of the vehicles inspected were being pulled off the road. Primarily, the officers were finding unsecured loads and faulty brakes. Both are critical mistakes. Truck accident lawyer Jeff Rasansky has witnessed cases where car drivers were seriously injured as a result of an 18-wheeler’s load coming loose or from the big rig rear ending them.
Kudos to the Fort Worth, Arlington and Mansfield officers participating in the nationwide effort to remove dangerous semi-trucks from our highways.
