A woman was killed during the first week of September, 2011, in a fatal Dallas car accident involving two passenger vehicles and a dump truck. The dump truck ended up slamming into her 2011 Kia at an intersection. The dump truck also managed to slam into another vehicle, causing a wreck where both vehicles were dragged some distance and ending in the death of the woman driving the Kia.
Car Accidents with Trucks
To put it in the bluntest terms, the driver of a passenger vehicle doesn’t have much of a chance of escaping uninjured if they happen to get into a wreck with a large commercial vehicle. While big rigs are usually recognized as serious threats by most drivers, it’s important to remember that smaller commercial vehicles can be nearly as heavy when they are loaded down. A dump truck, for example, can weight many tons when it is loaded with gravel, sand or asphalt. These vehicles sometimes have a very difficult time stopping. If they are driven by an incompetent or negligent driver, they become serious risks to everybody on the road.
Seeing the Accidents Coming
The early September wreck left little that could be done by the victim. It occurred at an intersection where traffic was stopped at a red light. This is one of the worst types of wrecks that you can get into with a commercial vehicle. When you are in a situation where all of the traffic is stopped and there is nowhere to go, a rear end accident can be particularly devastating. Most of the time, however, there is at least something the driver of the passenger vehicle can do to try to avoid being involved in a collision.
If You Are Hit
If you get into a wreck involving a commercial vehicle, you very well may have the option of filing a lawsuit against the company that owned the vehicle. If it turns out that they put a negligent driver behind the wheel or that they were not properly maintaining their equipment, they may well be liable for damages. To find out whether or not you actually have a good chance of winning a lawsuit, you need to speak with a Texas truck accident attorney. A truck accident lawyer has the knowledge and experience to know how to take on commercial trucking companies and to make sure that you have the best chances of winning a lawsuit against them.
