Last week a Zoila Reyna Reachi, 59, was killed after she was involved in a collision with an 88-year-old driver in a CRV and a San Marcos police car. The 88-year-old driver slammed into Reachi’s parked pickup truck. Reachi was standing outside of her car at the time while her husband, Jacobo Reachi, was still in the pickup. The force of the accident flung her body into the median where she was struck by a San Marcos police cruiser who had swerved to avoid the CRV.
The senior driver who caused the accident, Majorie Flythe of Austin, was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. Jacobi Reachi received only minor injuries and Officer Sam Myers was unharmed.
WFAA who reported the story, did not explain why the elderly rear-ended the clearly parked pickup to begin with. It’s possible that like other senior drivers involved in the fatal and near-fatal crashes earlier this year, the driver confused the accelerator with the brake.
