Two young men were arrested during the first week of July in Dallas County after they led police on a high-speed chase. According to a report in NBCDFW.com, the pair started the chase at around 2:30 AM near downtown Dallas. Before the chase was over, they would end up going through Oak Lawn and Mesquite.
The chase began when the driver refused to stop and using tools to blow out their tires was not an option because there were too many other cars on the road. Over the course of the chase, the drivers reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour, according to the report.
At one point, the drivers actually switched places in the vehicle while the car was still moving. They also threw beer cans out the window. The article points out that switching places during the chase actually ended up with both drivers facing felony charges. Both of them were in jail on charges of evading arrest, according to the report.
Lucky Outcome
Fortunately, nobody was injured in this particular instance but there are plenty of similar instances where people are injured or killed. In some cases, the reckless drivers end up taking people’s lives and in other cases, police departments have gone on high-speed chases that didn’t need to happen, resulting in death. In either case, contacting an attorney may be the best move for people who were injured or who lost a family member due to the accident.
If you are involved in such an accident, you can contact a lawyer from anywhere in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. You would not need to specifically seek out a Mesquite accident lawyer, for example, if the accident occurred in Mesquite. Most lawyers will be willing to sit down with you for a free consultation so they can determine whether or not they think they can help you.
Remember that a good lawyer will tell you if you don’t have a case. Accident lawyer tend to work on a contingency basis, which is an arrangement under which they do not get paid unless they win your claim. If you’re working under such an agreement with a lawyer, it can be beneficial in that you don’t have to worry about them having any motivation to take your claim if they think it’s going to lose. Because of that, this is usually the preferred way that the victims of negligent drivers and the victims of other forms of negligence prefer to pursue their cases.
