Teenager and Good Samaritan Josh Kaluzniak was killed in Fort Worth around 2:45 am on Sunday morning when he was hit by a suspected drunk driver. The Grandview High School senior had gone to a haunted house with his best friend and mother on Saturday night. On their way back, they came to a wreck on I-35W and Rosedale. Kaluzniak got out of his car to help the victims of the accident. He was directing on-coming traffic away from the shoulder where the damaged vehicles were when 43-year-old Ronald Wilfred Directo, Jr struck him. Kaluzniak was thrown over the guard rail and fell 20ft onto Rosedale Street.
Directo is already under arrest – he faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter. Directo’s passenger, a 42-year-old woman, was also arrested for public intoxication.
Kaluzniak’s tragic death has the entire community grieving. A devout Christian with a reputation for kindness, he was planning on joining the Marines after high school. His father Donald Wayne Kaluzniak described his son as “an amazing kid… he did anything for anybody, anytime.” Many family friends and best-friend Mackenzie Evans shared their thoughts on his life in interviews with WFAA. A candlelight vigil was held for him last night and further details on funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
