In Highland Village near Lewisville Lake, a man was riding his bicycle at the intersection of Village Parkway and Harlington Drive. Not much is known about the Denton County accident, except that a car hit the bicyclist. The accident occurred at around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. According to a FOX4 report, the driver did not stop to offer help, but instead chose to drive away leaving the bicyclist seriously wounded.
The bicyclist described only as an “adult male victim” was taken from the scene by helicopter to Plano Hospital. A Monday night report indicated that he was listed in serious condition at the hospital. No further updates on those involved have been posted.
While the details of what caused the accident have not been shared with the media, whatever the circumstances it is still illegal to leave the scene of an accident. When the police catch up with the driver, if they have not already done so, most likely charges will be filed. If you are someone you know has fled the scene of an accident, please turn yourself into the police.
Bicycle lanes have been a heated issue in Dallas County where cycling activists have pushed for more bike lanes and laws to protect bicyclists. As bicycling grows in popularity throughout the State of Texas (joining other states on the national front that have changed roads to accommodate bicyclists,) there will be more discussions on how to safely share the road.
