Haltom City, Texas — For the 3rd time in just over a month, there has been an accident between a Trinity Railway Express train and another vehicle.
The accident occurred Monday evening (11/04/2013) at the intersection of Carson Street and Eden Drive. If that location sounds familiar, it’s because that was the location of the fatal TRE train accident from October 1st of this year.
The yet-to-be-named victim of Monday’s accident was reportedly up and walking after the collision, but had to be transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers aboard the Trinity Railway Express train.
Haltom City Police spokesman Joe Hackfeld said that investigators believe the crossing equipment was working, but that the man tried to drive his pickup truck around the crossing arms. Fort Worth Transportation Authority spokeswoman Joan Hunter said that the TRE crews tested the signals and they appeared to be working.
This being the 2nd train accident at the same intersection in less than 5 week’s time, I think it is probably best to conduct some more in-depth testing at that crossing site. It absolutely could have been human error both times, but it also could be equipment malfunction. And if it’s a product liability or equipment maintenance issue, you had better nip this in the bud right now before someone else gets injured or killed.
