Princeton, Texas — Stephan Chaney, 17, and Cody Hensley, also 17, were fatally injured in a rollover accident in Princeton early Sunday morning (11/10/2013).
According to reports, the vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Joshua Bartlett, was carrying 7 passengers when it crashed – 2 more than can safely be restrained. The car involved appears to be a red Mazdaspeed 3 (a high-performance tuned version of the Mazda 3). All five remaining passengers (including driver Josh Bartlett) were transported to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to critical. Two of the surviving victims remain in the hospital.
Stephen Chaney & Cody Hensley were both high school seniors — Cody at McKinney North High School and Stephen at Princeton High. Six of the seven teens involved in the crash are either students or recent graduates of Princeton High School.
The accident occurred at Monte Carlo near Florence drive at about 4:00 a.m Sunday morning when (witnesses say) “the car appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed before going out of control and rolling several times.” Cody Hensley and Stephen Chaney were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A vigil will be held Monday at 8:00 p.m. at McKinney North High School.
It is important to understand though, that this is an ongoing investigation. A variety of factors could have contributed to this accident, and only through a thorough investigation can one determine the circumstances leading to such an accident.
