Dallas, Texas — The driver of an Equity Transportation big rig truck has died after crashing his truck into the Highway 67 overpass on I-35E on Tuesday night (11/26/2013).
The accident happened at around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night when the truck, which was traveling southbound on I-35E, left the roadway and wrecked into one of the concrete support columns for the overpass. The overpass carries northbound Highway 67 traffic as it merges with I-35E. The cab of the 18-wheeler was destroyed, and according to the Dallas Sheriff’s Office, the driver died at the scene. Police have not released the name of the deceased.
The accident had southbound traffic shut down at the Hwy 67 split until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. The violent collision had many officials worried about the support structure of the overpass, but Texas Department of Transportation engineers have announced that they’ve inspected the bridge, and do not believe there is any structural damage.
It’s always distressing to hear that someone was killed in an accident, and I hope his family is able to get answers as to why this occurred. I’m interested in hearing the results of the police investigation. Was it simply driver error? Was there a mechanical failure? Did another driver cause the accident? Police are still conducting an investigation.
