Carrollton, Texas — An 18-wheeler flatbed truck caused an accident on northbound Interstate 35E early Tuesday morning (01/07/2014), sending two people to the hospital.
At around 1:50 a.m. late Monday night/ early Tuesday morning, police say the driver of a flatbed truck rear-ended a female driver on I-35E near the Whitlock Lane/ Sandy Lake Road intersection. The collision caused her car to spin around and come to a rest on the shoulder. The big rig was reported to have then careened into a concrete barrier. The cab of the truck came to rest upside down within the HOV lane, and its load of 700 pound 30-foot-long steel oil drilling pipes spilled across the highway. The pipes scattered across the northbound lanes, the northbound frontage road, and even the southbound HOV lane. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
All traffic on I-35E was shut down for hours due to cleanup efforts. Southbound lanes have re-opened, while 35Express says they expect northbound lanes to remain closed until at least 10:00 a.m. – maybe noon.
