Van Zandt County, Texas — A violent two-vehicle accident on Highway 19 sent 57-year-old Billy Tims to the hospital Wednesday morning (03/12/2014) with serious injuries.
According to reports, a pickup truck (driven by 24-year-old Garrett Wade) traveling northbound on Highway 19 somehow lost control, over-corrected, and slammed into an oncoming car in the southbound lane near the intersection of County Road 4205. The accident occurred at about 7:00 a.m.
Firefighters from the South Van Zandt Volunteer fire department (SVZVFD) responded to the scene with assistance from Canton Fire Rescue, and were forced to use the “jaws of life” to remove Mr. Billy Tims from the wreckage. Mr. Tims was taken by air ambulance to the East Texas Medical Center Tyler hospital with serious injuries. By later that day, Billy Tims was listed in fair condition.
The driver of the truck, Mr. Garrett Wade, reportedly suffered only minor injuries, and no other passengers were in either vehicle. The scene of the accident was cleared by 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
