Fort Worth, Texas — A man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries following an accident between a Trinity Railway Express (TRE) train and a red GMC pickup truck on Thursday afternoon (03/20/2014).
The accident happened around the 1100 block of Haltom Road, just south of State Highway 121. Officials say that the 3-car train was traveling westbound from the Richland Hills station toward the Intermodal Transportation Center in downtown Fort Worth when the accident occurred at around 4:15 p.m.
TRE passengers reported feeling a jolt and seeing a cloud of dust upon impact. There were no reported injuries from those aboard the train. The driver of the pickup received only minor injuries, according to MedStar.
Of course the TRE was quick to accuse the pickup driver of attempting to beat the train, but attorneys like me know better than to trust a transportation company’s statement immediately after an accident. Interestingly, the collision occurred just about 2 miles west of the location of two train-vs-car accidents happened last October. I’d like to know what led to this accident. Crossing arm failure or malfunction? Limited visibility? The best way to determine this is through an investigation.
