DALLAS, TX (06/20/2014) — 70-year-old Joseph Higginbotham, of Dallas, was killed in an accident on the Dallas North Tollway after a truck blew a tire and its payload crossed into oncoming traffic.
Senior citizen Joseph Higginbotham was his neighborhood’s favorite handyman, was always willing to lend a helping hand, and was beloved by those who knew him.
On Friday afternoon, June 20th at about 3:30 p.m., Texas state troopers were called to the scene of an accident on the Dallas North Tollway near Frankford Road. A triple axle truck, registered to Dallas Foundation Drilling Company Inc., had blown a tire while traveling southbound on the tollway. The driver parked the truck in the left lane of the highway, but apparently failed to see the danger in allowing the truck’s payload (a crane’s boom) to hang over the center barrier.
Shortly after, Mr. Higginbotham’s pickup truck violently collided with the crane, and Joseph Higginbotham was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the crane truck was not injured. Police say it is not yet clear whether any charges will be filed.
