WYLIE, TX (7/23/2014) — The driver of a dump truck has been arrested for intoxication manslaughter following a fatal accident in Wylie, Texas this morning.
According to reports, 77-year-old Dannie Jackson and his 83-year-old wife, Jonel Brown McGehee, were crossing State Highway 78 at Cooper Street (near Kirby Street) when a dump truck hauling dirt T-boned their maroon four-door Nissan shortly before 11:00 a.m. Jonel Brown McGehee, who was riding in the passenger seat, was killed in the collision. Dannie Jackson was injured and taken to The Medical Center of Plano in an unknown condition.
The driver of the dump truck, 67-year-old Alton Batts, was uninjured. While investigating the accident, Wylie police officers discovered what appeared to be a small bottle of vodka on the driver. Batts was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
