ARCHER COUNTY, TX (8/5/2014) — Three people are dead and one is in critical condition following a Tuesday afternoon car accident on Highway 82 just west of Dundee, Texas.
UPDATE: On August 9th, Brenda Montoya (the victim who was left in critical condition) died from her injuries at United Regional hospital.
According to reports, 45-year-old Adalberto Chapa (also sometimes spelled Adalberto Chopa), of Fort Worth, was driving a black pickup truck eastbound on Highway 82 when his vehicle crossed the center line of the highway. Chapa’s truck then clipped the trailer of a westbound pickup. Luckily, the occupants of that vehicle were uninjured. Chapa’s vehicle then struck a second westbound vehicle (a red pickup truck also towing a trailer) driven by 23-year-old Cody Goss. The collision caused the red pickup truck to run off the road and crash, killing Cody Goss and his 17-year-old passenger Lacy Mullings. Both were from Maud, Oklahoma.
As a result of the collision, Chapa’s pickup then caught fire. Adalberto Chapa was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His passenger, 31-year-old Brenda Montoya (of Mexico), was ejected and pinned underneath one of the trailers. She was transported by air ambulance (CareFlite) to United Regional where she remains in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.
