ARLINGTON, TX (11/24/2014) — One person has been hospitalized following an accident involving a motorcyclist and a disabled vehicle.
According to Arlington police, a motorcyclist was traveling down Texas State Highway 360 (SH 360) early Monday morning when he or she struck the rear of an unoccupied, disabled car near Pioneer Parkway in Arlington. The yet-to-be-identified victim was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
While I understand that not much has been reported on this accident, the facts of this case raise some important questions. A report by NBCDFW states that the broken-down vehicle was “parked on the side of the highway.” Does that mean the shoulder of the highway? Was it partially in a lane of traffic? While the image above does appear to show a solid white line, this could also indicate a merging lane or onramp.
The NBC article also stated that the vehicle was unoccupied and “had burned several hours earlier.” A car fire is not something that happens often, and such an incident is frequently caused by a crash or another serious malfunction. The abruptness of such an incident makes me wonder if the driver was able to completely pull off the road. Of course, all of these questions will likely be answered during the initial investigation.
