TYLER, TX (12/20/2014) — A Saturday morning car accident in Smith County has left three people, including a 2-year-old, hospitalized in critical condition.
According to reports, the accident happened at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday on Loop 49, about one mile north of the Highway 64 interchange.
Texas State Troopers report that the driver of a compact Lexus crossed the double yellow line and into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a minivan and colliding head-on with a gray-colored Ford Mustang.
State Troopers say that three people (the driver of the Lexus, the driver of the Mustang, and a 2-year old child who was riding in a car seat in the back of the Mustang) were taken to local hospitals for treatment. They are said to be in critical condition. The driver of the minivan was reportedly uninjured.
DPS Trooper Jeanne Dark declined to comment on the possibility of charges against the driver of the Lexus, saying that the investigation was ongoing.
