PALO PINTO COUNTY, TX (03/06/2015) — A head-on accident Friday afternoon on Highway 337 has left two women dead, and five others hospitalized.
The two-vehicle accident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. Friday near Turkey Creek Road (just west of Mineral Wells and two miles north of Highway 180).
According to officials, 34-year-old Jessica Lee Harris (of Graham) was traveling northbound on Texas Highway 337 in her white 2010 Mitsubishi when she crossed the center line into the path of a southbound white 1999 Chevrolet passenger van carrying members of Faith Center Assembly of God. The driver of the church van apparently swerved to avoid hitting the oncoming vehicle, but when Harris corrected, both vehicles collided head-on. According to witnesses, the church van came to a rest upside down while the Mitsubishi caught fire.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Jessica Lee Harris, was pronounced dead at the scene. A total of four helicopters were called to the scene to transport the victims. The driver of the van was taken to Palo Pinto General Hospital and then flown via air ambulance (CareFlite) to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. A total of four victims were taken to JPS hospital in Fort Worth. A fifth victim was transported to a different Fort Worth hospital, and two victims were taken to a hospital in Mineral Wells (one of which was treated and released).
It’s been reported that 40-year-old Stacey Daily, who was transported to JPS Hospital, has died from her injuries.
The van was carrying seven members of the Faith Center Assembly of God church in Graham, with ages ranging from 11 to 49 years old. According to DPS officers, everyone in the bus was wearing a seat belt.
