ATHENS, TX (03/23/2015) — The alleged negligent actions of a truck driver caused an accident which claimed the life of 54-year-old James Scholar.
Authorities responded to a two-vehicle accident Monday at around 5:30 p.m. on US 175 in Henderson County (just south of Athens).
According to investigators, James Scholar was riding his motorcycle northwest on Business 175 and approaching an off-ramp when a pickup truck (which was stopped at a sign) allegedly failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of Mr. Scholar’s motorcycle, causing James Scholar to strike the side of the pickup truck.
Judge Randy Daniel pronounced 54-year-old James Scholar, of Aubrey, deceased at the scene of the accident. Scholar’s body was taken to Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as 35-year-old James Creel, of Palestine. There is no word on whether any charges have been filed against Mr. Creel at this time.
