FORT WORTH, TX (03/31/2015) — 24-year-old Sylvia Zazueta has died, and seven others have been injured after a vehicle crashed through the storefront of a local Fort Worth gas station and convenience store.
The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon, just before 2:00 p.m., at the Star Food Mart convenience store located at the intersection of Riverside Drive and East Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth. The vehicle involved appears to be a gray late model Chevrolet Avalanche.
According to police, the driver of the pickup truck had just fled a minor accident and was traveling 80-100 mph just before the second crash. Officials report that the truck was traveling northbound on Riverside Drive at a high rate of speed, attempting to turn west on Lancaster Ave, when the driver lost control and crashed into the convenience store.
24-year-old Sylvia Zazueta was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in critical condition but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Witnesses said that Zazueta (a mother of 3) was pinned under the truck inside the store before rescue workers could reach her. Seven others (including both occupants of the truck and five customers inside the store) were injured in the accident and transported to Harris Methodist Hospital and John Peter Smith Hospital.
There were two occupants in the truck at the time of the accident. The passenger has reportedly been transported to the hospital. Police suspect that the driver (19-year-old Isaac Adams) was under the influence of a narcotic and have charged him with intoxication manslaughter. He could face additional intoxication assault charges as well.
