TERRELL, TX (05/21/2015) — 34-year-old Santos Lira and 22-year-old James Husband Jr. were seriously injured in a head-on collision near Terrell Municipal Airport on Thursday afternoon in Terrell, Texas.
According to reports, Santos Lira, of Quinlan, and James Husband Jr., of Terrell, were injured in a two-vehicle crash around 12:00 p.m. Thursday on Airport Road near Airline Drive.
Terrell Police Department Capt. A.D. Sansom states that Husband was traveling south on Airport Road in a maroon 2001 Ford Taurus when his vehicle crossed the center line. Husband then crashed into Lira’s silver 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer head-on.
Terrell firefighters extricated Lira from his vehicle; he was transported via CareFlite ambulance to Terrell Municipal Airport where a CareFlite helicopter airlifted him to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. A CareFlite ambulance also took Husband to Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
“Lira had serious injuries, including obvious broken bones, but we do not believe at this time either have life-threatening injuries,” Sansom said.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
