TYLER, TX (05/21/2015) — A 3-year-old girl suffered two broken legs after the vehicle she was riding in was rear-ended by a distracted driver near the intersection of Front Street and Glenwood Avenue.
According to police, a four-vehicle accident left a 3-year-old girl with two broken legs after a driver rear-ended the car she was in Thursday night at around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Front Street and Glenwood Avenue in Tyler, Texas.
Detective Andy Erbaugh with the Tyler Police Department stated that the driver of a white SUV rear-ended two vehicles which were waiting at a red light on Front Street.
The driver of the SUV admitted to police that he had been distracted and didn’t have the chance to stop his vehicle before the crash occurred.
Police said that the vehicle that took the initial impact carried a 3-year-old girl in the back seat. She was flown to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas with life-threatening injuries. While both of her legs were broken in the crash, she was expected to be released within a few days.
“You wouldn’t tell by the crash that anyone in the backseat survived,” Erbaugh says.
The driver of the car carrying the child was taken to a Tyler hospital; that individual has been treated and released.
The victims of the second rear-ended vehicle also suffered injuries, but none of them reportedly required hospitalization.
