AMARILLO, TX (06/20/2015) — A distracted driver causes a wrong way, 18 wheeler crash that claimed the life of 72-year-old James David Brome on Saturday morning.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that 72-year-old James David Brome, of New Braunfels, has died following an 18-wheeler crash on Saturday morning on Interstate 40 in Carson County, Texas.
DPS officials stated that shortly before 10:00 a.m., 23-year-old Jeremy David Ogorman was traveling eastbound in a 2004 Saturn Vue on I-40 near Amarillo, Texas when he became distracted and allowed his vehicle to enter the center median.
Ogorman overcompensated, lost control in the eastbound lanes, and ended up back across the median and into westbound traffic where he collided with a 2014 Freightliner 18-wheeler truck driven by 72-year-old James David Brome.
Jean Hardman, Carson County Justice of the Peace, pronounced Brome dead at the scene of the accident. Brome’s passenger, 25-year-old Edwin Dwight Bailey, was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas in stable condition.
Ogorman was also transported to Baptist Saint Anthony’s in Amarillo in stable condition.
This incident remains under investigation.
