DALLAS, TX (07/15/2015) — A hit-and-run accident claimed the life of bicyclist Jimmie Sines on Wednesday night.
According to police, 54-year-old Jimmie Sines was killed on Wednesday night after he was struck by a dark green 1996 Honda Accord at the intersection of Lake June Road and Holcomb Road in Dallas, Texas.
Police and witness reports state that at around 6:45 p.m., 19-year-old Silverio Alaniz was driving west on Lake June Road when he struck a bicyclist who was traveling south on Holcomb Road. After the collision, Alaniz allegedly drove another half-mile before stopping to remove the victim from his windshield, dumping him in an ally in the 1600 block of Holcomb Road and driving away.
The condition of the bicycle leads authorities to believe that Alaniz was traveling at a high rate of speed when the incident occurred.
Dallas-Fire Rescue stated that Jimmie Sines, a handyman who lived very close to the accident scene, was transported to Baylor University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
After the crash, Alaniz traveled north to Huttig and Holcomb where he left off his vehicle. He was later arrested at his mother’s residence in the 8100 block of Jennie Lee Lane (about two miles from where the victim was found). Alaniz allegedly admitted to police that he had been in an accident and fled the scene.
Alaniz is currently in jail and has been charged with causing an accident involving death, which is a second-degree felony.
