CARROLLTON, TX (07/30/2015) — Motorcyclist Randy Laribee is in critical condition after an intoxicated driver caused an accident late Thursday night.
UPDATE 08/01/2015: The victim in this accident has died, and the driver is now facing intoxicated manslaughter charges.
According to authorities, a 50-year-old Randy Laribee, from McKinney, was critically injured late Thursday evening after a suspected drunk driver pulled out in front of him in the 3700 block of Josey Lane, near Rosemeade Parkway, in Carrollton, Texas. Police say the driver was out to get more beer at the time of the accident.
Police state that at around 10:05 p.m., 59-year-old Michael Kevin Erbert turned left onto Josey Lane after exiting near a Burger King drive-thru. Police say Erbert turned in front of the motorcyclist, forcing Laribee to collide with his Chevy pickup truck.
Jolene DeVito, a police spokeswoman, says that Randy Laribee was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash (Texas does not require helmets for riders over 21 years old). He was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, however, he is not expected to survive.
Erbert was arrested at the scene and has been charged with intoxication assault. The charge will likely be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter if the victim dies.
