CHICO, TX (08/07/2015) – A multi-vehicle crash on Friday night killed one man and seriously injured two others.
According to authorities, a multi-vehicle crash on FM 1655 at FM 1810 claimed the life of Daniel Cordova-Acuna, 30, and injured Jose Ramirez Garcia, 42, and Colton Petty, 21 in Chico, Texas Friday night.
The Department of Public Safety stated that at around 7:40 p.m., Cordova-Acuna was traveling southbound on FM 1655 in a Mazda B series pickup truck when he ran a stop sign. Cordova-Acuna drove into the path of an eastbound 18-wheeler, driven by Jose Ramirez Garcia.
The 18-wheeler collided with the pickup truck and pushed it off the road before the semi-truck rolled onto its side in the westbound lanes of FM 1810. The 18-wheeler was then struck by an oncoming 2 1/2-ton military truck.
The pickup truck came to rest on the south side of FM 1810. Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow pronounced Cordova-Acuna dead at the scene.
Garcia was reportedly transported to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur, Texas. Colton Petty, the driver of the military truck, was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, where he has been listed in fair condition.
