MIDLAND, TX (08/20/2015) — 25-year-old Justin Southerland was killed, and 16-year-old Avonlea Villalobos was injured, after a head-on motorcycle crash this past Thursday night.
According to authorities, 25-year-old Justin Southerland was killed, and 16-year-old Avonlea Villalobos was critically injured after a motorcycle crash last Thursday night along Highway 80 in Midland, Texas.
State troopers reported that 26-year-old Jeffrey Garvin was traveling the wrong way on Highway 80 and struck Southerland’s motorcycle head-on.
The impact claimed the life of Southland, and critically injured his passenger, Villalobos, who was transported to a nearby area hospital for treatment.
After the collision, Garvin fled the scene.
According to troopers, Garvin smelled like alcohol, and he admitted to drinking two 24-ounce bottles of beer.
Garvin has since been arrested on intoxication manslaughter charges. He could also face an additional charge of intoxication assault.
