HOUSTON, TX (09/01/2015) — A four-vehicle car accident killed a mother and son, and injured eight other people on Tuesday night.
According to authorities, a 34-year-old mother now identified as Nancy Thomas and her 15-year-old son Kevin Scott Thomas were killed, and eight others were injured, following a four-vehicle car accident on Tuesday night at the intersection of Beltway 8 North and Antoine Drive in Houston, Texas.
Officials stated that shortly after 8:30 p.m., the 17-year-old driver of a silver Dodge pickup truck ran a red light and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe that carried a family of four.
After the initial impact, the SUV rolled onto two more vehicles.
According to police, 15-year-old Kevin Thomas (a passenger in the Tahoe) was killed instantly. His mother Nancy—also a passenger—was transported via LifeFlight to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
The two other occupants of the SUV, the father in the driver’s seat and daughter in back seat, were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities report that two women were in one of the vehicles that the SUV struck—they were taken to a hospital in unknown condition. The fourth vehicle involved carried three people, who were all treated and released at the scene.
The 17-year-old driver of the Dodge pickup truck was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital.
This accident remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Section.
