VAN, TX (10/12/2015) — One person is dead and another has been hospitalized after a head-on accident Friday night.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 38-year-old Kevin Stryker was injured, and 18-year-old Crystal Ramirez was killed, following a head-on accident along FM 314 in Van, Texas.
Authorities reported that at around 11:19 a.m., Ramirez was traveling northbound when she veered into southbound traffic and struck Stryker’s pickup truck head-on.
Ramirez lost her life in the wreckage.
The DPS stated that Stryker was transported to a hospital in Tyler, Texas for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police reported that Ramirez was speeding at the time of the collision.
Commentary
Teenage drivers are one the leading causes of fatal roadway accidents. Could this be because teenagers are more susceptible to distractions? Are they more careless behind the wheel? Oftentimes, yes. However, it is important that all drivers, regardless of age, be vigilant of their driving habits, especially on smaller undivided highways.
