LUFKIN, TX (10/26/2015) — A failed passing attempt lead to a head-on accident which killed three people on Monday afternoon.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has identified the three victims of the Monday afternoon head-on collision: 68-year-old Sarah Melinda Ryan, 70-year-old James Harvey Ryan, and 49-year-old Carl Hammerly.
This fatal car accident occurred along Highway 103 in Lufkin, Texas.
Authorities stated that shortly before 1:00 p.m., Hammerly was traveling westbound in a 2005 Dodge passenger car when he attempted to pass another vehicle; however he failed to negotiate the pass and struck Ryan’s eastbound Jeep Wrangler head-on.
Hammerly was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sarah and James Ryan, both of Etoile, were both transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
This wreck remains under investigation.
