EL PASO, TX (12/01/2015) — Magdalena Duran died on Tuesday afternoon, and 2 others were injured, following a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident.
El Paso police have identified 72-year-old Magdalena Duran as the victim of a three-vehicle collision in El Paso, Texas that occurred on Interstate 10 near Trans Mountain Road Tuesday.
According to authorities, at around 2:30 p.m., a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2006 Porsche Cayanne were stopped in the left lane of I-10 due to traffic congestion when a 2001 Ford F-150, driven by 36-year-old Juan Ortiz, moved from the right lane into the left lane and struck the rear of the Malibu at a considerable speed.
The initial impact forced the Malibu to collide with the Porsche Cayanne.
Duran, who was a passenger in the Malibu, was transported to University Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. The driver of the Malibu, 30-year-old Michael Sainz, was taken to Las Palmas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ruben Natividad, a 64-year-old passenger in the Cayanne, was also taken to Las Palmas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, it is unknown whether Ortiz will face charges.
