SPICEWOOD, TX (01/01/2016) — Madelyn Glasgow and Paul Hagen died as a result of a head-on collision that occurred on New Year’s Day.
According to DPS Trooper Robbie Barrera, 79-year-old Paul Hagen and 87-year-old Madelyn Glasgow were killed when their vehicle was struck by a wrong way driver on State Highway 71 in Spicewood, Texas.
The Austin-Travis EMS (ATCEMS) reported that the 16-year-old driver of a Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound and veered into eastbound traffic, striking a Chevrolet Silverado head-on.
Hagen and Glasgow lost their lives in the wreckage.
The driver of the Wrangler was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge via StarFlight with critical injuries.
Authorities are not sure what factors lead to this accident; an investigation is ongoing.
Commentary
Wrong way accidents are not only one of the most fatal types of accidents, they’re also on the rise. In 2014, the state of Texas experienced a 13% increase in wrong way crashes, which resulted in 50 more deaths and over 700 injuries.
