AUSTIN, TX (01/04/2016) — Kyle Anthony Frisbie died on Monday afternoon when the driver of a passenger vehicle failed to yield right-of-way, causing a fatal collision.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 24-year-old Kyle Anthony Frisbie and 51-year-old Timothy McCabe were both killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred in the 4800 block of West Howard Lane near MoPac Boulevard in Austin, Texas.
Austin-Travis EMS reported that at around 4:00 p.m., McCabe was attempting to exit a parking lot onto West Howard Lane in his Nissan Altima when he turned in front of a motorcycle, driven by Frisbie, causing them to collide.
Frisbie and McCabe lost their lives at the scene.
A male bystander, who tried to help McCabe, was injured, but refused transport to a hospital.
Commentary
Although the number of deaths due to motorcycle accidents has decreased since 2013, the numbers are still alarming. We believe this is because drivers frequently forget to check twice for motorcycles. Unlike other vehicles on the road, motorcycles are smaller and quieter, making them difficult to detect using mirrors alone. We want to remind drivers to pay extra attention for motorcyclists, especially during peak traffic hours, while changing lanes, making turns, or entering traffic.
