LIVINGSTON, TX (01/14/2016) — Dawn Poirier died, and her children Maddalynne and Knighton Poirier, along with Tracy Nettles, were injured in 3-vehicle wreck on Thursday.
According to authorities, 30-year-old Dawn Diane Poirier was killed—and her two young children were seriously injured—in a multi-vehicle accident in the 2600 block of US-190 East in Livingston, Texas.
Police reported that on Thursday at around 5:48 p.m., Poirier was traveling westbound on US-190 E in a black 2013 Mazda 6 when a white pickup truck suddenly backed into the street from a private driveway (at 2675 190 East), directly in Poirier’s path.
To avoid a collision, Poirier swerved left and into eastbound traffic. She crashed into a tan, 2009 Toyota Camry, driven by 51-year-old Tracy Richardson Nettles, of Livingston.
Authorities stated that the impact caused Poirier’s Mazda to become airborne and roll over. Both she and her daughter, 7-year-old Maddalynne Poirier, were ejected. Her son, Knighton Poirier, remained in the vehicle as it came to rest near a wooded area.
Poirier was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Maddalynne and Knighton Poirier, along with Nettles, were taken to Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
Unfortunately, the driver of the white pickup truck fled the scene. The only description given was a “white pickup truck.” Polk County DPS is asking that anyone with information about the pickup or its driver contact the DPS office at 936-327-6858.
