LUBBOCK, TX (01/19/2016) — A Tuesday afternoon accident involving two vehicles injured Jay Hoes and killed Ronnie Hunt.
According to the Lubbock Police Department (LPD), 53-year-old Jay Hoes was injured in a two-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of 34th Street and Ironton Avenue in Lubbock, Texas.
LPD reported that at around 5:00 p.m., a red Kia, driven by 48-year-old Ronnie Hunt, entered eastbound traffic, directly in the path of a white Ford Explorer, driven by Hoes.
“He pulled out in front of eastbound traffic and he was hit by a white Ford Explorer,” said Lt. Ray Mendoza.
Jay Hoes suffered moderate injuries.
Hunt was transported to University Medical Center, where he later died.
This accident remains under investigation.
Commentary
Failure to yield right-of-way, tailgating, and distracted driving are three of the leading causes of car accidents, and more often than not, those accidents result in injuries and/or fatalities. We’d like to take a moment to remind drivers that when entering a roadway, you may not have the right of way. If necessary, make a full stop and wait for the safest moment to enter traffic.
