ELGIN, TX (02/13/2016) — A wrong-way car accident killed George and Rita Peña, as well as James Penney on Saturday afternoon.
The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office identified George Peña and Rita Peña as the victims of a fatal two-vehicle car accident that occurred on Highway 290 near Old McDade Road in Elgin, Texas.
Authorities reported that at around 4:00 p.m., 22-year-old James Allen Penney was traveling eastbound in an SUV when he lost control of his vehicle, swerved into wrong way traffic, and collided with a truck, driven by Peña.
After the impact, the SUV caught fire. Penney, along with the occupants of the truck, George and Rita Peña, lost their lives in the wreckage.
