LEWISVILLE, TX (03/01/2016) — A stalled vehicle was struck on Tuesday night near Lake Lewisville, killing the driver, Gholamrez Sabzghabaei.
According to police, 64-year-old Gholamrez Sabzghabaei (of Denton) has died as a result of a two-vehicle accident that occurred along Interstate 35 in Lewisville, Texas.
Authorities stated that at around 8:40 p.m., Sabzghabaei was calling for help after his black Nissan had stalled on NB I-35E, on the Lake Lewisville bridge. As he was standing outside of his vehicle and on the phone with 911 operators, a white van heading northbound struck the disabled Nissan, causing Sabzghabaei to fall over the bridge railing, and into the lake.
A few Good Samaritan witnesses jumped into the water and were able to pull Sabzghabaei from the water and perform CPR until paramedics arrived. However, despite their courageous efforts, Sabzghabaei was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating this accident.
