SAN MARCOS, TX (04/05/2016) — A head-on collision in San Marcos on Tuesday morning left three dead and another three injured.
According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, 79-year-old Patsy Polzin, 58-year-old Douglas Polzin, and Pablo Ramirez-Ramirez were killed in head-on crash that occurred along Ranch Road (RR) 12 near Hugo Road in San Marcos, Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that shortly after 11:00 a.m., Ramirez was traveling eastbound in a Dodge pickup truck when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.
During this maneuver, Ramirez struck a Toyota Camry head-on, driven by Douglas Polzin.
Patsy and Douglas Polzin, as well as Ramirez, did not survive the wreck.
The three other occupants of the Dodge pickup truck were transported to South Austin Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
Commentary
Business owners from around the accident location stated to KXAN that it is not uncommon for drivers in the area to pass while in no-passing zones, but that there are currently several construction projects along RR 12 which appear to be aimed at making the area safer by widening the road and adding turn lanes.
