MIDLAND, TX (04/23/2016) — Midland police Officer Xavier Ramon was seriously hurt when his patrol vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver.
According to authorities, 24-year-old Officer Xavier Ramon was injured after his cruiser was struck by another vehicle at the intersection of Midland Drive and Anetta Drive in Midland, Texas.
Midland police reported that at around 2:30 a.m., 31-year-old Jose Garcia disregarded a stop sign and collided with Ramon’s squad car. The impact forced the officer’s cruiser off of the road and into a nearby residence, causing a vehicle fire.
Officials stated that Ramon was transported to a nearby area hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
“We’re very thankful these injuries aren’t life-threatening but in this case, he’s going to have a long recovery,” said Midland Public Information Officer Sara Bustilloz.
Garcia attempted to flee the scene following the crash, but he was arrested and charged with intoxication assault.
This accident remains under investigation.
