ALVIN, TX (05/25/2016) — Alvin ISD teaching assistant Ana Castillo was killed on Wednesday after another driver ran a red light.
According to Texas DPS Trooper Stephen Woodard, Ana Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident Wednesday, at the intersection of W. State Highway 6 (TX-6) and CR 146.
Castillo had reportedly stopped her 2005 Mercury Monterey at a traffic light about 3:40 p.m. when a driver heading eastbound on Highway 6 drove his 2014 Dodge 1500 pickup through a red light and crashed into the side of Castillo’s car.
Castillo, a special education teaching assistant at Don Jeter Elementary School in Alvin, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
The male driver of the pickup truck was transported to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Woodard said that the man did not show signs of intoxication, and had volunteered for a blood draw.
That driver has now been charged with disregarding a stoplight, but additional charges may be brought as the investigation continues.
